Questions and answers
Questions about applying, about working at akko and about everything around it — collected here and sorted by topic.
Do I need experience at an airport or in logistics?
For many jobs, no. Whether in a warehouse, in baggage handling or in an airline catering kitchen — what counts is reliability, punctuality and a willingness to work shifts. What you need to know for the job, you learn during onboarding; required training such as aviation security or a forklift licence we sort out with you beforehand. Where a qualification or work experience is needed, the job ad says so.
Do I have to send a cover letter or a CV?
No. A short application needs your name, where you live, your phone number and your email address — we do not expect a cover letter. We only need a CV where the job ad says so. Any documents an assignment requires can follow later; we discuss exactly what is needed when we talk.
How does the application work?
You apply online in a few minutes — for a specific job or speculatively. Then we call you: we get to know you, talk about working hours, location and your experience, and see which job fits. If it does, the contract, the briefing and your start date follow. For jobs in the airport’s security-restricted area, the background check comes on top; we file the application together with you.
What does it cost me?
Nothing. Our placement is free for applicants — you pay nothing for the application, and nothing for the training or certificates an assignment requires. That applies to employment with akko just as much as to a direct placement with a client company.
What working hours and shifts are there?
Depending on the job: early, late and night shifts, often at weekends and on public holidays too — the airport and many warehouses work in shifts. Every job ad states which shift model applies and whether the position is full-time or part-time; you can filter by that in the job search. If you can only work certain hours, tell us in the first conversation.
What does temporary employment with akko mean for me?
You are employed by akko GmbH and work at one of our client companies. Your contract, your pay, your holiday and your named contacts are with us; day to day you are part of the team on site. When an assignment ends, your employment with us continues.
Am I paid under a collective agreement?
Yes. We are a member of the German staffing association GVP and apply the industry’s negotiated collective agreement system in full. What a specific position pays is stated in its job ad. If the ad does not say, you hear the pay in the conversation — before you sign anything.
Can the client company take me on permanently?
That is possible if the company offers it — and for many people an assignment is exactly the route into a permanent job. We support you through that too. Some positions are advertised as a direct placement from the start: then you are employed directly by the company. The job ad shows this under contract type.
What language skills do I need?
That depends on the job. Basic German or English is enough for many roles; where more is needed, the job ad says so or we tell you when we talk. Just apply — we will look at which job suits you.
Can I apply speculatively?
Yes. Send us a speculative application even without a specific vacancy — just tell us what you are looking for, where you would like to work and when you could start. It takes the same route as any other application: name, place of residence, phone and email are enough. We get in touch when we see a job that fits you.
What happens to my data?
We use your details to process your application and to suggest suitable jobs to you. The specifics are set out in the privacy notice for applicants (in German); you can request information, correction or deletion at any time. A message via our contact form is all it takes.
What is a security background check (ZÜP)?
An official check under German aviation security law. Anyone who wants to work in the security-restricted area of an airport generally needs it — it is the precondition for the airport ID. It is carried out by the competent aviation security authority, not by us. We check with you in advance whether the prerequisites are met, and go through the details for the application together.
How long does the check take?
That is the authority’s decision, not ours — which is why we quote no deadline here. What we can influence is the timing: we file the application from day one in parallel with recruiting, rather than after selection — which lets new staff start up to four weeks earlier than usual. Complete details in the application help; queries from the authority cost time.
What training is involved?
Depending on the assignment: aviation security training, dangerous goods (DGR) training, safety management training, apron driving permits, forklift certificates and occupational health examinations. What your assignment requires, we settle beforehand.
Which airports do you operate at?
It started in Frankfurt, where we have our own premises in The Squaire. Today projects also run in Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Munich and Leipzig.
Can I start at the airport while the check is still running?
Not in the security-restricted area — the ID is a precondition there. Outside it there are roles that are possible beforehand. If you need work at short notice, tell us; then we look there first.
Do I need a forklift licence?
For forklift work, yes. If you do not have one, you can get it through us — free of charge for you. For picking, packing and dispatch it is usually not required.
What shifts are there in logistics?
Often early and late shifts, and night shifts in many operations. Which model a position requires is stated in its job ad, not here. If you can only take certain shifts, tell us beforehand; then we look for those.
Is the work physically demanding?
In part, yes: picking and goods-in mean lifting, walking and standing through the shift. What the specific requirements are, we tell you before the assignment — not on your first day.
How quickly can I start in logistics?
Often at short notice: outside the airport’s security-restricted area no official check is needed. What it does take is occupational health clearance and, where relevant, a forklift licence.
